With a team full of SHE-EO’s, mom-trepreneurs and girl bosses, it isn’t hard to come up with content for a blog. For Halloween, we wanted to shine a spotlight on one of our many talented artists- Katie! You’ve met her before, in our artist introduction series, but this time we wanted to bring attention to her incredible special effect makeup. This blog will show you a Katie you’ve never seen before!
In this feature, you will get to know when Katie discovered her interest in special effect makeup, how she keeps her skills sharp and who she looks up to in the world of special FX makeup.
When did you first get interested in special effect makeup?
I have always been interested in art whether it be pottery, painting, or drawing. Even as a kid I used to have coloring contests with my older sister (who turned out to be an art major) and I would always try to copy all of her shading and detail in all of her drawings because she brought everything to life with the way she added dimension to it! Now that makeup is my career, it was only natural that I gravitated towards the creative side of makeup just as much as the beauty side!
As you can see, Katie talents take her makeup offerings to the next level and fully round out her beauty resume. With the skills she has, Katie can get you ready for your wedding day, a prom, professional headshots, a Halloween party, or Comi-Con! Whether you want to look like Kim Kardashian or a werewolf she’s got you covered.
How did you get so good and how do you hone your skills?
When I first started posting my work on Instagram, I used to participate in creative makeup contests and get all sorts of inspiration and creative ideas from other talented artists all around the world. Some of those artists will post what they used and so I would pick up tips and tricks from them. Then in my daily life I have a couple incredibly talented friends that work in film, and body painting competitions that I will ask some questions to if I need help with anything. And I always practice and go to IMATS every year with my friends. They have always been a great source of information and support since I started this as my career.
Katie is also always practicing, as you can see on her Instagram page. She hopes to someday be in the company of Vivian Baker and Ve Neill. For now, she finds a lot of inspiration and motivation from artists like Amanda Pepin and Kaylee Doll. Katie also mentions some Instagram artists that fuel her fire, including Jordan Hanz, Kimberley Margarita, and Kelly Jurado. Someday she hopes to take classes but for now, she practices in front of her mirror (in between working and being a mom)!
What are you being for Halloween?
The Night Queen, of course.
