At KiSSandMaKeUp we’ve grown into our new space by adding team members and services. We added microblading with Bonne, eyelash extensions with Katie, and we aren’t stopping there! Now you can get an Ayurvedic facial too! Vanessa, one of the KiSSandMaKeUp makeup artists and owner of VP Artistry, is bringing her talents in house and will be offering these facial treatments on location. You may be wondering what an Ayurvedic facial is, right? I was too, which is why I will let the expert explain. Vanessa explains it as follows.

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is an ancient holistic healing system that was developed in India over 5,000 years ago. It suggests that our health and wellness is dependent on a balance of mind, body and spirit and that everything is connected.

According to Ayurveda, each of us is comprised of the five fundamental elements of space, air, fire, water and earth. A combination of these elements then creates our unique dosha, a mind-body type that expresses a unique blend of physical, emotional and mental characteristics. The three main doshas are Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Typically, one dosha is more dominant than the others, but we can also have a combination of the two. This is important because your dosha also indicates your Ayurvedic skin type. Ayurveda puts an emphasis on skin and skincare because it believes that what happens inside of our bodies always shows up on the outside, so if there are any imbalances, it will show up on our skin. Environmental factors and a change in season can also affect your dosha or Ayurvedic skin type. Knowing your dosha will help determine how to care for your skin and which Ayurvedic skincare products will be of most benefit.

For example, the Kapha dosha represents earth and water, so Kapha skin tends to have the qualities of those elements – it can be oily, thick, more tolerant of the sun, smooth, dull, durable and have large pores. In layman’s terms, a Kapha skin type is oily. When Kapha skin is imbalanced, we see cystic acne around the jaw line, blackheads and excessive oiliness. Kapha needs detoxification, decongestion and has to work to get things moving.

What is special about Ayurveda?

Rather than isolating and treating a specific skin condition, Ayurveda focuses on the individual, determining why there is an imbalance and what he or she needs to find harmony. It takes a unique approach to achieving beautiful and youthful skin.

What products are used?

VP Artistry uses a local Ayurvedic skin care line from Guildford, CT called Solavedi Organics, where Vanessa was trained and certified in Ayurvedic facial treatments. She is also dedicated to using the line to care for her own skin.

Non-toxic and free of harmful chemicals, these products are incredibly nourishing, soothing and gentle. All of the products are non-gmo, gluten free, soy free, organic and hexane free. Most are vegan and you will see ingredients such as neem, pomegranate, white orchid, tulsi, amalaki, calendula, lemongrass and lavender.

Whether you’re a soon to be bride, a mother who could use some distressing, or just interested in balancing your mind, body, and spirit you should come and meet Vanessa. If you’re interested, give us a call to book your appointment.
