This week is all about skin care:
Behind every flawless makeup application is our canvas. Skin care and makeup go hand in hand. Keeping your skin smooth and hydrated enhances your natural beauty. Sometimes, it can be hard to know exactly what your skin needs when you have mixed symptoms. Your diet, water intake, and face products all play a factor.
Our skin care expert Vanessa featured live demos and consultations at the Mohegan Sun Bridal Show this past Sunday. In case you missed it – we have more upcoming events! Part of our new year’s resolutions are to improve ourselves inside and out. Vanessa’s skin care tips and unique expertise could be the solution you’ve been searching for!
Ayurveda is an ancient holistic healing system that was developed in India over 5,000 years ago. It suggests that our health and wellness is dependent on a balance of mind, body and spirit and that everything is connected.
Vanessa of VP Artistry
According to Ayurveda, each of us is comprised of the five fundamental elements of space, air, fire, water and earth. A combination of these elements then creates our unique dosha, a mind-body type that expresses a unique blend of physical, emotional and mental characteristics. The three main doshas are Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Typically, one dosha is more dominant than the others, but we can also have a combination of the two. This is important because your dosha also indicates your Ayurvedic skin type.
Ayurveda puts an emphasis on skin and skincare because it believes that what happens inside of our bodies always shows up on the outside, so if there are any imbalances, it will show up on our skin.
Environmental factors and a change in season can also affect your dosha or Ayurvedic skin type.
Knowing your dosha will help determine how to care for your skin and which Ayurvedic skincare products will be of most benefit.
For example, the Kapha dosha represents earth and water, so Kapha skin tends to have the qualities of those elements – it can be oily, thick, more tolerant of the sun, smooth, dull, durable and have large pores. In layman’s terms, a Kapha skin type is oily. When Kapha skin is imbalanced, we see cystic acne around the jaw line, blackheads and excessive oiliness. A Kapha needs detoxification, decongestion and has to work to get things moving.
Rather than isolating and treating a specific skin condition, Ayurveda focuses on the individual, determining why there is an imbalance and what he or she needs to find harmony. It takes a unique approach to achieving beautiful and youthful skin.
What is Ayurvedic Skincare?
When it comes to Ayurvedic skin care, you can almost guarantee that the products are the cleanest and purest on the market. It would be against the philosophy of traditional Ayurveda if the products weren’t made from the unique and purposeful combinations of herbs, minerals, flowers, plant extracts and botanical oils.
Ayurvedic skin care differs from other natural and organic skin care lines in that the products also have healing and medicinal qualities, leaving you feeling internally calm, centered and rejuvenated. The products are potent and highly effective with no damaging side effects.
VP Artistry uses a local Ayurvedic skin care line from Guildford, CT called Solavedi Organics, where Vanessa was trained and certified in Ayurvedic facial treatments. She is also dedicated to using the line to care for her own skin.
Non-toxic and free of harmful chemicals, these products are incredibly gentle, nourishing, dosha appropriate and safe for even the most sensitive skin. They restore balance, revitalize your dermal physiology and support your skin’s connectedness with your internal conditions as well as situational stressors. All of the products are completely pure and natural, non-gmo, gluten free, soy free, hexane free, chemical free, organic and most are vegan.
Ayurvedic Skin Consultations:
Vanessa’s personalized Ayurvedic skin consultations provide clients with the information they need to determine how best to improve the look and feel of their skin and to feel comfortable starting a daily skin care routine. The consultation begins with an assessment to determine the client’s dosha/Ayurvedic skin type and what that means for the needs of the individual. A treatment plan targeted toward the client’s specific needs using Ayurvedic skin care by Solavedi Organics is also discussed. In addition, Vanessa thoroughly reviews the specific skin care products needed to achieve healthy and vibrant skin, their functions and how and when to use them. Clients go home with a suggested skin care regimen and samples of products appropriate for their skin type.
