The Hilliard Mills is the home to many of our favorite wedding vendors! We are so fortunate to be neighbors with like-minded, creative entrepreneurs. Many of the wedding vendors right down the hall are frequently at the same weddings as us, and we love seeing a friendly face! Lisa, owner of Nightingale Events has worked with KiSSandMaKeUp on several weddings and styled shoots.

What inspired you to start Nightingale Events?

I was inspired by love.  Since I was a little girl I have had a love for seeing couples in love and happy and that started with my parents.  My dad as a child and still to this day brings my mom flowers every week and also surprises her with jewelry or trips and always showed her tons of love and affection so when I met “the one” myself,  I understand how they felt and felt inspired to help others on their journey of love too!  BUT Pam was the one who made me realize my big “ah huh” moment too!  Pam was getting married and I was giving her all these ideas on vendors for her day and she turned to me and asked why I wasn’t charging for this and encouraged me to start my business.  The rest is history!

What’s your favorite part about weddings?

I love seeing our couples first looks (if they have one) because the true raw emotions on their face is everything to me!  If they don’t have  a first look when they lock eyes for the first time at their ceremony is my fav!  I also love to do the reception room reveal because we have worked so hard to design and plan, and for them to see it come together is very special to me.

How do you find your “zen” of work/life balance?

I find my zen by having set working/office hours.  My work ends at a certain time and then I like to focus on my family and friends for the rest of the evening or weekend.  I also really enjoy designing my home we purchased last year.  It’s a foreclosure so it needs a lot of TLC and so working on it gives me great joy and relaxation. 

What is your biggest piece of advice for brides? 

Make your wedding fun and custom to you guys!  For instance if you guys love to try new food have food stations that allow you guests to try different offerings.  If you don’t like formalities such as a bouquet toss or speeches don’t do it!  This is your day and you should have fun with it. Clients ask me all the time if they have to do save the dates or first dances and my answer is no!  Do what feels right to you guys!
