Every season arrives with its own beauty liberties. Styles that may be suitable for summer need a hiatus to make way for wintery looks. Our team shares their winter makeup do’s and don’ts to keep you looking good all winter long!
Prep & Prime
Properly prepping your skin before applying makeup any time of year is a must. Winter can require a couple extra steps to guarantee your makeup sets flawlessly and doesn’t highlight settle into any dry skin. You want to use a 4 step process with a winter prep and prime routine.
1. Keep your skin smooth with a mild cleanser and an exfoliating brush. There are plenty on the market from versions that spin, buff and do all sorts of tricks. We like just using a simple silicone cleansing pad to unclog pores and slough off any flakey skin. Avoid harsh scrubs that can strip your face.
2. Use a thicker moisturizer to protect your skin from harsh winds and compensate for cell damage from the cold air.
3. Use a primer to minimize pores, reduce the look of any wrinkles, and avoid any settling of product.
4. After applying your makeup, always finish with a setting spray to seal the deal!
Go Bold
Winter tends to get us all bundled up in neutrals and dark colors. Give your look a pop of color by introducing a bold lip to your look! This is the best time to try out fun hues like hot pink or a bright purple. Follow suit with the season and incorporate deep plums and wine shades for a more seductive bold lip!

Amplify your Lashes
If you’re cold and you know it.. put on some falsies! We always encourage our brides to use false lashe to amplify their look. With a little practice, you can add a quick strip lash to your makeup look for any upcoming gathering or party you are attending. At a package deal of 5 for $10, you can’t beat our favorite Ardell Demi Wispies that give you just enough vavoom without looking over the top. Our insider trick: line the strip with Duo Lash Glue and count to ten. Place the inside corner on the top of your lashes and press the entire strip down so it is flush with your own lashes. Let dry and swipe once with mascara! Instant glam status in just minutes!
Maintain Your Skin (Professionally!)
Having a professional spa service done at least once during winter is an absolute must. Even the best skin care routines can fall short with the transitions from heat to cold and all the damage the air is causing our skin. It’s a great idea to start your year out right with a professional facial that will target your unique skin issues. After having a professional facial, your products will absorb more efficiently and you will be able to maintain soft, glowing skin much easier!
